What are the benefits of co-parenting after divorce?

If you are going through divorce and have one child or more, you know that many challenges lie ahead. This is particularly true if you have young children.

Questions regarding child custody are sure to come up during the divorce process. While it is common for both parents to want to spend as much time as possible with the children, some key questions must be answered. For example, which parent will the children live with?

During the divorce process, you may not think that co-parenting is a possibility. You may not believe you will ever be able to get along with your former partner. Even so, here is something you need to keep in mind: you are not doing this for yourself, but instead for the well being of your children.

Children with divorced parents who have a good co-parenting strategy can benefit in many ways:

-- Ability to spend time with both parents.

-- Increased sense of security, knowing that both parents still love them, despite the divorce.

-- Consistency, including knowledge of what to expect in their day-to-day life.

These are just a few of the ways that children can benefit from parents who devote time and effort to establishing a solid co-parenting strategy.

The benefits of co-parenting after divorce typically fall on the child. This may not do much for the parents, but there is nothing better than knowing that the decision to go down this path is leading to a better life for the children involved. Overall, co-parenting is better than constantly butting heads with a former spouse.
