What you may not realize about divorce

| Dec 21, 2015 | Divorce

Even if you think you are prepared for the divorce process, you never know what the future will bring. Just when you believe you have a grasp on the situation, something changes and you are back at square one.

You won’t fully understand what happens during and after divorce until you personally experience this.

Here are a few things you may not realize about divorce:

— You may feel guilty, even after many years.

— Splitting up is never as bad as you think. Over time, things will get better as you move on with your life.

— The emotional devastation is very real, even if you were the person who filed the petition.

— You won’t fully understand how hard divorce is on your children until the process is complete.

— Even in the future, there may be something associated with your marriage and divorce that causes you pain.

— You may be surprised to learn that your former partner is spiteful.

— It is common to obsess over the worst case scenario, despite the fact that this is not likely to come true.

— You will begin to feel better, but it can take many months or longer to recover.

These are just a few of the many things you may not realize about the divorce process. Even if you think you are prepared, this has a way of turning your life upside down.

The only thing you can do is prepare yourself to the best of your ability. From there, deal with any divorce concerns as they come to the forefront.
