Certain behaviors could be precursors to divorce

The words "marriage" and "easy" are rarely associated with each other. The fact is, sustaining a marriage is one of the most difficult things two people can do in the best of circumstances. But if one of the partners has stopped trying to make things work, the chances of a marriage remaining healthy are reduced to nearly zero.

But how can you tell if your marriage is in serious trouble or if you are experiencing normal issues that can be resolved with some time and effort? Well, according to a divorce and relationship coach, there are a number of behaviors you should interpret as red flags.

For example, for a marriage to function properly, a couple must have mutual respect for one another. But this cannot be accomplished if your spouse is constantly criticizing or belittling you. Even if he or she disguises the barbs as "jokes," you can probably tell the remarks are meant to injure.

Engaging in the blame game is another problematic behavior. It can be very demoralizing if your spouse blames you for all of his or her problems.

In such circumstances, it is only natural if you find yourself avoiding contact with your spouse. But unfortunately, taking such actions, however justifiable, will likely only create more emotional distance.

But no matter how badly your spouse treats you, it is up to you to make things change. And if you believe your marriage is beyond repair, you may want to discuss your situation with an experienced family law attorney.

An attorney can explain what is entailed in the divorce process, which can help you make the soundest possible decisions regarding your future.
